Pacifc Coast Super Cup

TUKWILA, Wash. (Jan. 22, 2011) – Washington and Oregon teams took to the fields at Starfire to compete in the inaugural Pacific Coast Super Cup in front of supporters and college coaches.

Teams from both states were pleased with the level of competition, even though the first round tilted slightly toward Washington teams from the Puget Sound Premier League. But the next leg heads to the Portland area at the end of February for three more first-round matches. Oregon Premier League teams will no doubt be prepared and waiting to wage battle on their home turf.

Still, the first leg was full of surprises, upsets and some sizzling competition that showcased some superbly skilled soccer teams from around the Northwest.

Among the surprises and well-contested matches:

Crossfire Premier B losing its two first-round matches to Marauders and Cascade FC, which puts it in a difficult and unexpected spot at the bottom of the GU14 table. Crossfire, a strong and athletic team, will no doubt try to mount a comeback in Oregon. Saprissa Purple leads the GU14 division, scoring six goals and conceding none over two matches.

Tynecastle BU17 defeating CFC Helix, BU18, 2-1, in probably the best match of the first leg. Both teams displayed incredible talent, skill and desire. The match was full of drama, including two red cards, and a free kick that decided the outcome.

Westside Metros securing an exciting 2-2 draw against a strong NK Explosion team in the boys U17/U18 showcase division.

TynecastleR holding on for a 0-0 draw against Tualatin Hills United in another end-to-end match that underscored the competitiveness and the skill of both teams in the U17/U18 showcase division.

FC Portland Academy Navy and River City Black were the class of the GU15 group, winning both of their matches in style.

Tualatin Hills United Sapphire clearly dominated the GU16 division, scoring a total of 11 goals and conceding none over two matches.

Legacy FC Maroon Lightening leads the girls GU17/18 showcase division, winning both matches and giving up no goals. It is the only undefeated team in that group.

For the Boys U14, the top teams clearly were ISC/Arsenal, Tynecastle and CB United. The three teams combined for a total of 34 goals against their opponents.

At Boys U15, Oregon teams dominated. Tualatin Hills United Cobalt, Hillsboro Soccer Club, OSA Hurricanes and Westside Metros Alliance put a on display, racking up the goals and playing some solid soccer.

And in a very evenly matched divsion, the Idaho Thunder not only was the sole Idaho representative in the Boys U16 division, but stood out as the only undefeated team over two games.

Now, the concluding leg of the Super Cup turns to Oregon. Congratulations to all.

Please click here for all information related to the Pacific Coast Super Cup.

PACIFIC COAST SUPER CUP:

The Pacific Coast Super Cup is open to any soccer club looking for the next level of competition.
Six PSPL Teams Qualify for Inaugural NW Champions League

Six PSPL teams will be playing in the first-annual Northwest Champions League that kicks off in late August -- a new regional league that pits PDL (now RCL), Oregon Premier League and PSPL all competing in a Champions League format.

The PSPL has reached an agreement with the Northwest Champions League, www.northwestchampions.com, to send its Super League winners into this highly competitive new league against the region’s most elite teams -- teams from the PDL/RCL and OPL leagues. The NW Champions League is sanctioned by US Club Soccer.

The PSPL teams that earned a spot in the NW Champions League include:

Seattle Soccer Academy, BU12

Emerald City FC, BU13

Tynecastle United, BU14

PSS Slammers, GU14

Emerald City FC, BU17

Emerald City FC, BU15

Super League winners (U12-U18) in fall 2010, automatically qualify for the 2011 Northwest Champions League. PSPL teams will play against the likes of Crossfire, Eastside, FC Portland, etc--matches that will be extremely competitive. Winners at U12-U14 win an automatic invitation to the Surf Cup, in San Diego, Calif.

The U12 to U14 age group plays 14-match supplemental season from August to April. The older ages begin play in December and end in April, playing an 8-match season. Several venue-based competitions in Washington and Oregon will provide showcase opportunties for the older teams. The first games for the U12-U14 age group begin end of August.

What’s more, we are actively putting together a ``Europa’’ version of the Champion’s League for the next tier of teams to play against PDL and OPL teams.

So, Super League teams that place 2nd, 3rd, 4th or possibly 5th, would qualify for the next level Champion’s league and compete against equivalent PDL and OPL teams in a six-match format. This league -- probably two-venue based competitions at Starfire and in Oregon would kick off in winter/spring 2011.

We finally have created an opportunity for Washington state clubs to achieve your two most important priorities -- compete in a meaningful and competitive league and go head-to-head with PDL and OPL teams.

This is a big breakthrough, and while you are making decisions about where to play, we want to make sure you understand the opportunities that exist with the PSPL. We are fighting for your interests, and we are being successful in opening the competition back up for your teams.

We exist to help you make your team and your club better and stronger. This Northwest Champions League agreement is a big step in giving your teams a rightful place to compete against other elite teams.

Stay tuned for more information.
